Police Call Suspect Spread Horrifying Message: No Proper Display of Anarchy

Policeman said several parties arrested in Medan and Jakarta posted messages in the WhatsApp (WA) group chat room to incite unrest during the rally worker.

The demonstration is related to the Omnibus Employment Creation Law that has been ratified by the DPR RI together with the Government.

In a series of arrests by the security forces, several high-ranking officials of the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (WE) were also detained.


“If colleagues read the WA they are horrified. It is not surprising if anarchy occurs in the field, they are people who do not really understand, they are easily turned on,” said the Head of the Office of Public Information of the Police (Karopenmas) to reporters at the Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/13).

He said incitement and hate speech that smelled like SARA later sparked riots in several areas like Medan and Jakarta when the labor action took place.

He stressed that planning was done in order to design the demo to get chaotic.

“Some are not. So I never said where this is from anyway. It so happened that the ones we captured were from the United States,” he said.

In this case, the police have named at least five suspects out of the eight people arrested. They have also been detained at Bareskrim Polri.

The suspects were charged under article 45 A, paragraph 2) of the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (ITE) in relation to the dissemination of information that triggers hatred and enmity towards certain groups. The threat is 6 years in prison and a fine of 1,000 million rupees.

In addition, they were charged under article 160 of the Penal Code regarding sedition. “The threat is 6 years in prison,” Awi said.
