TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -The Defense Minister and General President of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, raised his voice regarding the demonstration against the Employment Creation Law on Thursday, October 8. According to Prabowo, many participants in the demonstration had not read the script of the omnibus law and were consumed by deception.

“And I want to give a deception warning. This means that someone wants to create chaos. I am certain that it comes from abroad,” said Prabowo in a video published by the Gerindra Police Department, on the night of Monday, October 12, 2020 .

Prabowo said that there were foreign powers and certain countries in the world that never liked that Indonesia was safe and advanced. He also thinks that opponents of the omnibus law do not realize that they are playing other people’s games. “And always, I said before, from hundreds of years ago, we always faced each other,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo said workers faced a dilemma related to the Employment Creation Law. However, he said the rules that simplified licensing and cut red tape were made for the sake of economic growth.

Without economic growth, Prabowo said, life for workers would be even worse, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, Prabowo also hopes that the workers will also realize this and are not excited enough to take massive action to commit vandalism.

He then mentioned the destruction of public facilities during a demonstration on Thursday, October 8. Prabowo said that the public facilities that were burned were also built with public money.

“I am not sure if it is from the children of the students or the young people, this must be the brain. These must be these elements, these must be elements financed with foreign funds. It is impossible for a patriot to burn people’s property.” Prabowo said.

The massive action against the bus law took place simultaneously in several regions on Thursday, October 8. On several occasions, representatives of the action denied that their action was sponsored or staged. One of the objections came from the Indonesian Student Executive Board Alliance (BEM SI).

“BEM SI guarantees and unequivocally declares that national and simultaneous actions throughout Indonesia are independent of the interests and mounts of one or some parties,” said BEM SI Alliance coordinator Remy Hastian in a written statement.
