Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– Former Director of PT Asuransi Finance and Investment Division Jiwasraya Syahmirwan was sentenced to life imprisonment for the Jiwasraya corruption scandal.
“Stating that the defendant Syahmirwan was found to have been legally convicted and convicted of committing corruption offenses committed together as in the primary indictment,” the Judiciary read the verdict, on Monday (12/10/2020).
The judge stated that Syahmirwan violated article 2, paragraph 1, of article 18 of Law 31/1999, as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on the eradication of corruption, article 55, paragraph 1, of the Penal Code.
The sentence against Syahmirwan was harsher than the previous prosecutor’s demands, namely 18 years in prison and a fine of Rs 1 billion.
The verdict received by Syahmirwan was the same as that of his former superiors at Jiwasraya, namely former Managing Director Hendrisman Rahim and former CFO Hary Prasetyo. Thus, the three were sentenced to life imprisonment.
In addition to Syahmirwam, Hary Prasetyo and Hendrisman Rahim, the judge also read the verdict hearing against the director of PT Maxima Integra, Joko Hartono Tirto.
Previously, the judge said that the defendants had carried out planned, structured and massive activities that were detrimental to Jiwasraya’s clients and contrary to the principles of a state free of corruption.
For information, the Attorney General’s Office has designated Hendrisman Cs as a defendant in the Jiwasraya case. The value of state losses due to Jiwasraya’s investment in stocks and mutual funds is estimated at Rs 16.8 trillion according to data from the Supreme Audit Agency.
Not only that, in Jiwasraya’s case, the AGO also named an official from the Financial Services Authority and 13 investment management (MI) companies as suspects.
