2. Job creation law, employers who are denied workers will be hired for life
A member of the Omnibus Law Formulation Team for Employment Creation Law, representative of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), Aloysius Budi Santoso, dismissed reports that employers would hire contract workers for life.
“If there is information in the public that we as entrepreneurs can make contracts for life, that is not correct,” he said in a virtual webinar conducted by Apindo DKI Jakarta, on Friday (09/10/2020).
According to Aloy, in the Omnibus Act of the Job Creation Act, a Specific Time Work Agreement (PKWT) is still limited to certain jobs. However, what still worries employers is the contract period of workers with PKWT status. More details please read here.
3. Economists on the job creation law: if it is a hoax, where is the final draft?
The chief economist of the Institute for the Development of the Economy and Finance (Indef), Enny Sri Hartati, called on the House of Representatives (DPR) to immediately and officially transmit to the public the content of the Employment Creation Bill.
The reason is, he said, that so far the government has declared that much information circulating in the community is a hoax.
“Now the question is, if it’s a hoax, get it out officially ASAP, where is the final draft officially submitted by DPR?” Enny said in a virtual discussion about Smart FM, on Saturday (10/10/2020).
According to him, the content of the law that has been approved must be disseminated to the public. If you don’t socialize, the DPR will appear reserved. More details please read here.
4. Omnibus Law and the failure of the 16 economic policy packages of Jokowi
The administration of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has published an economic policy package to attract investment.
Even the number of policy packages issued reached 16 packages, although the results were not very visible in attracting foreign investors.
The observer from the Institute for the Development of the Economy (Indef), Bhima Yudistira, said that the issuance of the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja is proof that the Jokowi administration has failed to attract foreign investment from the 16 economic policy packages launched in his first term. 5. Gold prices soared by 31 US dollars, this is the cause
Gold futures prices rose sharply at the end of the trading day on Friday (09/10/2020) local time (Saturday morning WIB).
The increase in the price of this precious metal in line with the fall of the US dollar to its lowest level in almost three weeks and growing speculation of a new US stimulus is encouraging investors to turn to gold as a hedge against possible inflation .
The most active gold contract for December delivery on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 31.1 dollars, or 1.64 percent, to close at 1,926.2 dollars an ounce. More details please read here.
