Up to 300 residents’ homes were flooded in Jalan Damai RT 04 / RW 02, Ciganjur Village, South Jakarta. The water level is 70 cm to 150 cm.

The head of the Jagakarsa sub-district, Alamsyah, said the flooding was caused by the flooding of children from the Setu River due to heavy rains. Also, there are water shipments from the Depok area.

“The rain is quite strong, apart from it raining in Depok, Kali Baru flows in Depok,” Alamsyah said, as reported by Antara, on Saturday (10/10/2020).

He said that the overflow of Kali Baru children was due to the river dividing wall in the Melati residents area being broken. The breach of the barrier caused the water to overflow into the residential areas on RT 04 / RW 02.

Several neighboring houses along the river were also damaged. One resident died and two other people were injured as a result of the incident.

“Two of them have been evacuated at Sibron Hospital, the other has information that he died at Marine Hospital,” Alamsyah said.

According to Alamsyah, the victim died as a result of the fall of his house, which was damaged by the overflowing of the children of Kali Setu. Until now, the water remains high enough to flood the residential areas of Jalan Damai.

Alamsyah said his party has prepared three places of detention for residents who fled. However, most of the residents chose to stay on the second floor of their home.

“The Jakarta Social Service has set up tents at the site for residents to evacuate, we need food assistance,” Alamsyah said.
