Jokowi opens voice, the job creation law aims to overcome unemployment

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – After waiting for your attitude on the ratification of the Copyright Law, President Joko Widodo finally spoke about the comprehensive law.

This statement was made by Jokowi in a press release from Bogor Palace on Friday (09/10/2020) afternoon.

Jokowi also explained the main reason why the government issued the Employment Creation Law. One of the reasons is to open new jobs in Indonesia.

“Why do we need a Job Creation Law? First of all, every year there are 2.9 million new working-age residents, young people entering the labor market,” Jokowi said.

“That is why the need for new jobs is very urgent,” said the president.

According to Jokowi, the current number of unemployed is also increasing.

In addition, the number of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many people economically.

“In the midst of the pandemic, there are approximately 6.9 million unemployed and 3.5 million affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Jokowi said.

The president explained that Indonesia is currently dominated by workers with low education.

Up to 87 percent of all workers, according to Jokowi, have a high school education or less. Then up to 39 percent of them also went to elementary school.

“That is why it is necessary to encourage the creation of new jobs, especially in labor-intensive sectors,” Jokowi said.

“The Job Creation Act aims to create as many jobs as possible for job seekers and the unemployed,” he said.
