Alleged Spreading of Jokes About Job Creation Act, @videlyaeyan Account Owner Arrested By Police

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesian Police arrested a woman with the initials VE (36 years old) who owns the @videlyaeyang Twitter account for allegedly spreading false news related to the Employment Creation Law.

The head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, said that VE was arrested by the police in Makassar, South Sulawesi, yesterday Thursday (10/8/2020).

“We conducted an investigation there and we found a woman who was suspected of carrying out a false broadcast, it was on her Twitter, Twitter @videlyaeyang,” Argo said at a press conference broadcast by Kompas TV’s YouTube account on Friday. (9/10 2020).

Argo said VE was deemed to have spread false news because it uploaded a tweet containing 12 articles of the Job Creation Act.

“For example, the severance pay is removed, then the UMP / UMK is removed, then all the license fees have no compensation and others are 12,” said Argo.

In fact, according to the police, the content of VE’s tweet does not agree with the content of the Copyright Act that has been passed by the House of Representatives.

The police also considered that VE’s actions had caused confusion in the community.

“From the results of the examination, it is true that the interested party made a post in which he spread false news on his Twitter account, which caused confusion,” Argo said.

Argo said VE’s reason for posting the tweet was to be disappointed that VE was out of work.

The evidence obtained by the police in EV’s arrest was a mobile phone and a SIM card.

Due to his actions, VE is suspected of violating article 14 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) and / or article 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 on the Regulation of Criminal Law.
