JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Chief Expert Staff of the Presidential Personnel Office, Donny Gahral Adian, said that President Joko Widodo had asked all governors to vote in support of the Job Creation Act.

According to Donny, Jokowi relayed this in an internal meeting via video conference with 34 governors in Indonesia, on Friday (09/10/2020) morning.

“Yes, it all means being asked for a voice and a narrative on this law,” Donny told Kompas.com, Friday afternoon.

According to Donny, at the meeting, Jokowi assured the governors that the Job Creation Law, which was strongly protested by workers and students, was really necessary to increase investment and employment.

“So there is nothing that has been perceived by people so far that this is harmful to people. This is totally aimed at the common good for the economy to recover and return to normal,” he said.

Therefore, Jokowi asked the governor, ministers and heads of institutions to disseminate the contents of the Employment Creation Law and at the same time refute various jokes that are circulating.

“(For) it to be conveyed to the public so that it can be understood clearly, it does not cause misunderstandings and everyone involved is obliged to explain to the public. As for what the benefits are and denying various deceptions about this law,” said Donny .

Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, was reluctant to comment when asked Kompas.com about meeting with Jokowi.

He said there would be an official statement relayed by officials in Jakarta.
“There will be a liberation of Jakarta. Please wait,” he said.

Earlier, several governors had conveyed the workers’ aspirations and asked President Jokowi to repeal the Employment Creation Act through government regulation instead of (Perppu) laws, including West Kalimantan Governor Sutarmidji, the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, and the Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno.
