Viral video of police beating Unisba security, this is what the Campus Party says

KOMPAS.com – A video of the beating of a security guard by unscrupulous police officers on the campus of the Islamic University of Bandung (Unisba) went viral on Twitter social networks on Thursday night (10/8/2020).

The circulating video shows that the police are firing tear gas at protesters against the Employment Creation Law in the Unisba campus area.

Later, a security guard reprimanded the police. However, the reprimand resulted in a hit.

A police officer approached the security guard and hit him immediately.

Confirm Unisba

Upon confirmation, the head of Public Relations Unisba Tresna Wiwitan confirmed the beating of the security guard.

The incident occurred on Thursday (10/8/2020) at 7:30 p.m. WIB in the Unisba rectory building.

“Yes, that’s right, in the Unisba rectory building. It happened last night,” Wiwit said. Kompas.com, Friday (09/10/2020).

According to him, the incident began when the police fired tear gas towards the campus area.

At that time, several protesters took refuge on the campus.

Seeing this condition, the Commander of the Unisba Rectorate Security Team reprimanded the police.

“So the police at that time dispersed the crowd using tear gas. The commander of the rector’s security team that was guarding the rector said, ‘weyyy kampusss’. Suddenly, the police got angry and beat him,” Wiwit said .

In response, Wiwit said that the Unisba leadership had sent a letter of complaint to the West Java Police Chief and Bandung Police Chief.

He added that Unisba has evidence from CCTV footage of the incident of the beating of the security guard by the police.

Currently, the security guard who was the victim of the beating has returned to work.

“(The security guard) is working again in the rectory building. The campus is also conducive,” he explained.

Unisba urged the leadership of the National Police to control its members so as not to overreact to the campus area.

In addition to that, Unisba also hopes that a similar incident will not happen again.
