JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan responded to the demonstration against the Job Creation Law.
According to Anies, the public has the right to have an opinion, including holding demonstrations.
“For us, it is the right of all Indonesians to express opinions and the constitution protects us for that. We respect the right of citizens to express their opinions,” Anies said in a recording received on Friday (09/10/2020).
Anies also met with protesters at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout on Thursday (10/8/2020) afternoon after the action.

He promised to convey his aspirations to President Joko Widodo during a meeting with the governors today.
“I also met the protesters and we talked with them. I told them, we listened to their aspirations and we will transmit them,” he said.
The Job Creation Law has been ratified by the DPR and the government in a plenary session in the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (10/5/2020).
Demonstrations against the Job Creation Law took place in several cities in Indonesia. Groups of workers from various regions of Jakarta tried to approach the State Palace and the DPR Building for a demonstration.
This demonstration also had an impact on the clashes between the authorities and protesters, such as at the statue of Harmony and the Horse, in central Jakarta.
Not only that, several public facilities were also damaged and burned, such as the HI roundabout bus stop.
