University of Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FISIP) professor Umar Sholahudin promised to give an A to students who participated in the demonstration against the Omnibus Job Creation Law. For detikcom, Umar also admitted taking part in the demonstration in front of the Grahadi State Building, Surabaya.
“Before I was still on campus but my classmates were already in the TKP, technically I asked the students to send photos and videos with friends during the action, as material evidence that they were in the TKP. But my responsibility, I am also monitoring the TKP in Grahadi, “Umar said when contacted by detik.com in Surabaya on Thursday (8/10/2020).
Umar said that the assignment to this student was not without reason. He said there were a number of important things like student practice materials in the field.
“I want the motivation of the students to have critical sensitivity to power, critical to community problems, especially the Cilaka Law,” said Umar.
However, the students who participated in the demonstration did not immediately get an A. Umar said there were techniques students had to do, such as taking regular courses, to take UTS and UAS.
“Technical values motivate students, but regular lectures remain, UTS and UAS remain. It is a political laboratory tool for the students, so that they at least apply what I have said or discussed in the conference forum ”, said Umar.
“So far, the conference is still online. So I encourage you to participate in the rejection of this miserable law because there are many in this law,” he continued.
Umar added that in this demonstration there were many lessons that the students were able to learn. In addition to fostering solidarity, Umar said that student participation was a moral responsibility to express opinions and defend the weak.
