Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Government has opened its voice about the labor and labor demonstration movement that has been taking place from Tuesday (6/10/2020) to Thursday (8/10/2020). The government believes that there are figures who mobilize and finance the massive action of these workers.
“Actually, the government knows who is behind the demonstration. So we know who moved it, we know who the sponsor is. We know who financed it, so we hope that the 7 factions of the DPR also represent the people,” said the minister. Economics coordinator, Airlangga Hartarto, in the Squawk program. Box on CNBC Indonesia TV, Thursday (10/8/2020).
According to Airlangga, the person “behind the scenes” who organized and financed the demonstration had a very big ego. In the midst of the pandemic, they are running a demonstration, but the person behind the scenes is not participating in the demonstration.
For this reason, the government has monitored the sponsorship of the massive action against the Employment Creation Law.
The government, Airlangga said, would not hesitate to take firm legal action if the situation of the massive actions taking place in various regions of Indonesia becomes more chaotic. Also, in the midst of the current Covid-19 pandemic, considering that the demonstrations involve many people, it will be dangerous for the safety of all people in Indonesia.
“The current situation is a large-scale social restriction (PSBB), so this has the potential to spread Covid-19. Therefore, in the PSBB the rules are clear and the government has spoken with the authorities to take firm measures, “Airlangga said.
If the Covid-19 transmission doesn’t stop, Airlangga said, it will take another time to get the economy back. For this reason, he emphasized that the government would not hesitate to take this case to legal action if the situation became increasingly unfavorable.
“We cannot punish based only on words. Of course, we see the actions taken. If there is legal action [yang dilanggar]”The government is taking firm action, especially through law enforcement officials,” Airlangga said.
Indonesia currently, Airlangga said, has more than 30 million people who want to get a job. Therefore, Airlangga asked the protesters to first read the content of the Employment Creation Law.
Airlangga also believed that the mobilization of demonstrations against the Employment Creation Law had been carefully designed, even before the Employment Creation Law was passed in the RPD.
“The demonstration was organized without looking at the content of the law and some of the protesters were assigned to the demonstration. It doesn’t matter what content it is. So this is a movement that is mobilizing.”
“And this is being mobilized before the law is finalized and the date is set. Therefore, we must see objectively that this is indeed a move by those behind the scenes who really want to get attention,” Airlangga said.
The government even knows that although 90% of factories continue to operate and produce, they still send delegations of their employees to carry out massive actions.
“In fact, there are some factories that ‘send dispatches’ because they are concerned that their factories will be disrupted. Well, this is, of course, because supporters ‘feel they should participate’ in these kinds of activities,” he said.
