Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The decision of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to summon two leaders of labor organizations on Monday (10/5/2020) to the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, gave rise to several rumors, including reports that he would become Vice Minister (wamen ).

The two heads of the labor organizations are the president of the Indonesian Workers ‘Trade Unions Confederation (KSPI), Said Iqbal, and the president of the Indonesian Workers’ Trade Unions Confederation (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea.

Previously, Jokowi had signed two presidential regulations on the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) and the Ministry of Manpower. The regulation also establishes the position of vice minister.

This raises a question: were positions ‘offered’ to the two labor bosses to reduce the national strike that had already been declared?

Said Iqbal laughed at this statement. He admitted that there was no discussion towards the position of Vice Minister of Manpower (wamenaker).

“Hahaha nothing, nothing. There is nothing to do,” he told CNBC Indonesia on Monday (10/5) evening.

Instead, he revealed that the meeting aims to discuss issues that are being widely discussed, namely the issue of the Omnibus Bill that has been ratified into law.

“[Bicara] the omnibus consideration process, “he said.

However, it seems that this is not the only time that labor leaders have been summoned to the palace. In the future, communication is expected to continue.

“Bung Andi will be called again later, tracing. If I look at the situation. If it was Bung Andi, apparently, they called him again. Wait for news, ”he explained.

Although both have been summoned, Iqbal confirmed that tomorrow’s national strike will still take place. This is also in accordance with the original plan, which will run for 3 days until Thursday (8/10).

“Continue walking according to Law Number 9 of 98 in the work environment or in the factory, from 6 am to 6 pm,” he said.

Said Iqbal emphasized that in this action the workers continued to enter the workplace. He is simply not doing work activities as usual, because a national strike as a form of protest passed the Omnibus Law.

“You have to come to the office. If you don’t come to the office you are absent, you cannot. Keep coming. The absence starts the action,” explained Iqbal, who is also member of the drafting team of Law No. 13/2003 on manpower.
