TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com – The police blocked the time of action of the Tangerang City Omnibus Law Plan.
Wakapolres Metro Tangerang Kota AKBP Yudhistira Midyahwan explained that the blockade was carried out by order of the police chief.
“Regarding today’s union action, the management ordered that we conduct isolation at the Tangerang exit point,” Yudhistira said in a voice statement on Monday (05/10/2020).
Yudhistira explained that massive blockades were also carried out on various roads from Tangerang city to Jakarta to prevent the movement of the mass action towards the DPR-RI building.

He said that, in addition to the isolation that was being carried out by orders of superiors, another reason was the compliance with health protocols during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
“We are still in the period of pandemics, of course there is perwal (prohibited) information and activities to rally and mobilize the masses,” he said.
Yudhistira said that there are several points that are used as isolation points, including Kebon Nanas, Cikokol, Batuceper, Cilbuilder and Cipondoh, which are the access from the city of Tangerang to Jakarta.
He said the isolation would last as long as the workers refused all the law dissolve.
“Until they dissolve,” he said.

This act of isolation by the police was seen as a repressive action by the authorities against freedom of opinion.
The Presidium of the United Banten Workers’ Alliance (AB3), Maman Nuriman, assessed that the blockade carried out by the police, which prevented workers from attending the DPR-RI, was a form of democratic silence.
“Everything is done by the police. That means silencing the democratic space,” Maman said.
