Syaikhu is known to have started joining as a cadre of the PKS in 2004 when he was nominated by the party as a member of the DPRD of Bekasi City.
Previously, after completing his education at the State College of Accountancy, he worked as an auditor for the South Sumatra Development and Financial Supervision Agency (BPKP) (1986-1989) and as an auditor at the BPKP Central since 1989.
Furthermore, in 2009, he was elected a member of the West Java Provincial DPRD.
However, when the Bekasi City Pilkada was held in 2013, Syaikhu, who was brought by PKS together with the Golkar Party to accompany Rahmat Effendi, managed to win the contest. Syaikhu eventually served as deputy mayor of Bekasi.

Twice the lieutenant governor failed
After his post as deputy mayor of Bekasi was completed in 2018, he ran for deputy governor of West Java with Sudrajat, as a candidate for governor.
Apart from the couple, there were three other candidates who also contested, namely Ridwan Kamil-UU Ruzhanul Ulum, Tb Hasanuddin-Anton Charliyan and Deddy Mizwar-Dedi Mulyadi.
The Sudrajat-Syaikhu couple promoted by the Gerindra Party, PKS, PAN, PBB and Idaman Party must swallow the bitter pill to defeat. This is because they were only able to get 6,317,465 votes or the equivalent of 28.74 percent.
The Pilkada was won by Ridwan Kamil-UU with 7,226,254 votes or about 32.88 percent.
In addition, in 2019 he was elected to the Indonesian Parliament. By his faction, Syaikhu was assigned to Commission V in charge of infrastructure, transportation, underdeveloped areas and immigration, search and rescue, as well as meteorology, climatology, and geophysics.

At the same time, Syaikhu entered the lieutenant governor candidate swap for DKI Jakarta to replace Sandiaga Uno, who ran for vice president with Prabowo Subianto.
Initially, in addition to Syaikhu, there was the name Agung Yulianto, which was proposed by Gerindra and PKS to replace Sandiaga. However, the two proposed names were rejected by the DKI DPRD.
The recommendation letter previously submitted to the DKI DPRD is revoked. Gerindra and PKS eventually came up with other names, namely Ahmad Riza Patria and Nurmansyah Lubis.
Finally, the name Riza Patria was chosen to replace Sandiaga.
