JAKARTA, KOMPAS TV – Cai Changpan alias Cai Ji Fan, a Chinese national sentenced to death for a drug case, continues to be pursued by police after escaping from Tangerang Class 1 prison on Monday (9/14/2020).

The 53-year-old man was reportedly hiding in a forest in Tenjo, Bogor, West Java. Cai Changpan is known to have escaped by making a sewer from his cell for 8 months using construction tools.

From the results of the police investigations, it is suspected that Cai Changpan was assisted by two prison officials to build the sewer.

Polda Metro Public Relations Chief Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said Cai Changpan started digging holes in his cell since February 2020. He made use of artisanal tools such as shovels, irons, screwdrivers, chisels and clay bags.

The tools used were allegedly obtained from a construction worker who worked in the prison kitchen.

By the way, the place where the kitchen was built was near his cell.
