JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Two weeks after pursuing death row Cai Changpan, Polda Metro Jaya is now deploying personnel from the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) in pursuit.

Polda Metro Jaya’s head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol Yusri Yunus, claimed that the police decided to deploy Brimob personnel, because the suspect’s search area was shaped like a forest.

“The team is still on the move, today assisted by friends of Brimob to chase the forest,” Yusri told reporters at Mako Polda Jaya on Saturday (03/10/2020)

Yusri added that the police had also requested information from several villagers living near the Tenjo forest, which was suspected to be Cai Changpan’s hideout.

Through this examination, it was found that Cai Changpan had left the forest to one of the villages to buy food. After that, he returned to the forest.

“He had time to go out to one of the villages to buy food, then he went back into the forest, so we are expanding the search for reinforcements by Brimob Polda Metro Jaya,” Yusri said.

Cai Changpan escaped from Tangerang Class I Prison, Banten, on September 14, 2020.

Police investigations so far reveal that Changpan escaped through a 30-meter hole, which he had dug for only eight months.

Based on information from his cellmate, Changpan digs up two pieces of plastic every night from 10:00 PM to 05:00 AM WIB.

To carry out the action, Changpan would have received assistance from two prison officials, a guard and an official (PNS).

From one of the prisoners, it was discovered that the two officers helped purchase equipment. One of them is a water pump.

Cai Changpan used the water pump to suck out the water that came out every time he dug an escape hole in the cell.

The police have also placed Cai Changpan on the wanted list (DPO).

A DPO brochure on Cai Changpan has been distributed to the public so that they can report immediately if they see a suspect.

The police urge the public to contact the Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Narcotics Unit on 081253178671, if they have information on Cai Changpan’s whereabouts.
