Medan, CNN Indonesia –

Medan Police appointed Edi Sahputra as general manager (GM) of Hairos water park in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on suspicion of violating the health quarantine.

This followed a viral video of thousands of visitors ‘partying’ in a swimming pool during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“So after the Satreskrim Polrestabes Medan case title and we decided the General Manager as a suspect,” said Medan Deputy Chief of Police AKBP Irsan Sinuhaji on Friday (2/10) afternoon.

Edi is charged with article 93 regarding sanitary quarantine violations in relation to article 9, paragraph 1 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2018 on sanitary quarantine together with Permenkes number 017 Menkes / 382 / 2020 on public health protocols and public facilities in the context of Covid-19 prevention and control.

“The person in question carries a sentence of 1 year in prison and / or a fine of 100 million rupees. The suspect is not detained because the sentence is less than 1 year,” he said.

Irsan also revealed that the pool party that 2,800 visitors attended did not have a letter of recommendation from the Covid-19 Management Working Group.

“From the findings in the field, there were no restrictions for visitors at the site. So under the pool there is a wave machine, above there is a live DJ. At that time there were 2,800 visitors inside,” he explained.

At the time, he said, the Hairos water park management deliberately gave a 50 percent discount on tickets to attract visitors. They reasoned that their turnover had decreased during the pandemic. The party was also held in the pool at the initiative of Edi Sahputra.

“The members went a little deeper into the management. It turned out that they were doing these activities in order to discount. The initial entry ticket was 42,500 IDR, then a 50 percent discount turned into 22,500 IDR, so it attracted the visitors. It turned out that it was a management initiative of the GM itself (Edi). The pool is not regularly sprayed with disinfectants, “he explained.

Irsan added that the case is currently still being developed by the police. He did not rule out the incorporation of suspects based on the results of the investigation.

“The case is still under investigation. There may be other suspects because we are conducting an investigation. The Covid-19 Task Force also sealed the location or closed it,” he explained.

Previously, the video of thousands of visitors ‘partying’ during the Covid-19 pandemic at a swimming pool in the Pancur Batu district, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, went viral on social media.
