Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD say a transmission case COVID-19 in the province of Jakarta DKI is always high although it is not maintained Concurrent regional elections 2020.
Mahfud assessed that the implementation of regional elections was not related to the level of pandemic vulnerability. This is because the regions administering regional elections have experienced a slowdown in the number of cases.
“In DKI where there are no regional elections, the infection rate is high, always being the first winner of the infection,” Mahfud said at a press conference at the ‘Pilkada 2020 Simultaneous Assessment and Analysis Meeting’, on Friday (2 / 10).
Mahfud said there was a decrease in the number of Covid-19 red zones in regional election organizers from 45 regions to 29. Meanwhile, in areas that did not hold regional elections, the Covid-19 red zone increased from 25 to 33 regions.
The former president of the Constitutional Court said that the vulnerability of a pandemic depends on the discipline in each region. It has nothing to do with the pilkada.
“The health protocol must be strictly followed. Based on the results of the first day’s evaluation, vulnerability is not in the area where there is or is not a choice, but in the discipline in the implementation of the health protocol,” he said .
Previously, pressure to postpone local elections was reinforced as the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia worsened. Additionally, massive violations of health protocols by hundreds of chaplones can also be seen during the registration period.
Electoral NGOs, such as Perludem, Netgrit and the Code of Initiatives, have expressed delays. The same was encouraged by large mass organizations, such as PP Muhammadiyah, PBNU and MUI.
However, President Joko Widodo insisted on holding regional elections on the grounds that no country yet knew when the pandemic would end.
