JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The group of pilgrims consisting of retired TNI soldiers and their supporters en masse were unable to enter the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, Pancoran, Jakarta, on Wednesday (9/30/2020) afternoon.

The crowd seemed too large, causing a crowd.

Quoted from Warta Kota, the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery is closely guarded by TNI and law enforcement personnel.

Gatot and several retired officers had an argument with Col. inf Ucu Yustia of Dandim 0504 / South Jakarta as they were about to enter the tomb area.

“This is in the hero’s grave, yes, you have the warrior oath Sapta Marga. You are responsible before Almighty God that retirees respect the heroes who were victims of the G30S / PKI,” Gatot told Ucu.

The Dandim emphasized that he was only fulfilling his duties and did not intend to prohibit Gatot and his retired officers from going to the tombs of the heroes.

“We are only complying with our obligations to comply with health protocols,” Colonel Ucu replied.

Ucu said there should be no crowds according to health protocols.

It says, only 30 people can enter once to make a pilgrimage

“I appreciate it,” Gatot said when he heard that 30 people could enter the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery.

After a tough debate, the group was finally allowed to enter with a maximum of 30 people per group.

Around 20 minutes, Gatot arrived at the tombs of the heroes in what they called a commemoration of the PKI rebellion on September 30.

Laksanama Madya (Purn) Suharto as president of the retired Sovereignty National Guard, who was reading a statement before various mass organizations, was also prevented by Ucu.

Ucu tried to grab a piece of paper containing P2KN’s statement, sparking a minor riot.

There was a push between Ucu and the person behind Suharto as he tried to stop Suharto’s speech.

“Wait a minute,” said the man who tried to block Ucu when he wanted Suharto to stop giving a speech.

“This is the graveyard of heroes. Don’t take him into politics, ”Ucu said.

“Not into politics. We are Indonesian citizens. Right (to speak),” said the man in the red beret.

“I’m just doing my job, sir. I’m in charge of the area here,” Ucu added.

A woman also asks Ucu to let Ucu speak.

At the time, Laksdya Suharto explained that P2KN, made up of retired officers, both Pati, Pamen Pama and NCO, would be committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and going hand in hand with the community.

Clashes broke out

Clashes between masses of pilgrims and protesters at the Heroes’ Cemetery, Kalibata, caused damage to the car.

The glass of the transport car numbered M01 with the route Kampung Melayu – Senen was broken.

One of the witnesses at the scene, Iwan, said the confrontation occurred after Gatot Nurmantyo made a pilgrimage and planted flowers.

“There was a confrontation when Mr. Gatot left by car. His position was that there were more protesters. Then there was a massive action of pilgrims screaming. “What are you doing to obstruct the pilgrimage activities?” Iwan said, mimicking the mass action of the pilgrims when contacted by Kompas.com, on Wednesday night.

Then, from the direction of the pilgrims’ mass, someone was seen throwing bottles and stones.

Crowds of pilgrims were also seen chasing public transportation wagons and hitting the wagon glass with bamboo to break it.

“The car carrying the protesters was destroyed. The police and TNI broke up the confrontation,” added Iwan.
