PEKANBARU, KOMPAS.com – Circulating on social media a photo of a child allegedly abandoned by his parents accompanied by a letter, which occurred in the district of Pangkalan Kuras, Pelalawan Regency, Riau.

The child’s photo and a letter were shared on the Twitter account @cursedwibu on September 27, 2020.

In the photo, the boy appears to be wearing a red jacket. On his left face, there is a wound that is believed to be the result of his parents’ abuse.

Supposedly abandoned by parents

Pelalawan Police Public Relations Officer Iptu Edy Haryanto, when confirmed, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I have confirmed to the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pangkalan Kuras Police, there is indeed a child with such signs (allegedly abandoned by his parents). We also know that this incident went viral on social media,” he said Edy when contacted. Kompas.com by phone, Tuesday (9/29/2020).

He admitted that he did not know the boy’s name, but he was only about eight years old.

This child was allegedly abused and abandoned by his parents. However, Edy said the case was still under investigation.

“His parents are there. Today we gathered his parents, the head of RT and the people in his neighborhood,” Edy said.

Regarding the alleged abuse and neglect of minors, Edy admitted that the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pangkalan Kuras Police was still conducting further investigations.

“In fact, there are indications that the child experienced violence. But, the antecedents of why this happened are still being explored. We cannot speculate because social media is not necessarily true. So we have to find the truth,” Edy said.
