Lisbon –
Ruben Dias will soon be inducted as a Manchester City player. Dias has been named the most expensive player in Citizens history. So expensive?
Benfica have allowed Dias to complete his move to City earlier this week. The Portuguese defender even flew to Manchester immediately after living his last game with Benfica, when he beat Moreirense 2-0 on Sunday (9/27/2020) at the WIB yesterday morning.
It is possible that City will announce Dias as soon as possible on Monday (9/28), because Benfica’s field has announced the transfer. In their official statement, Benfica admitted that they had reached an agreement with City for the transfer of Dias.
Dias is said to be worth 68 million euros (64.8 million pounds) or around Rp. 1.1 T with an additional bonus of around 3.6 million euros, depending on his appearance with City. Thus, it is confirmed that Ruben Dias is the most expensive player in the history of City.
He broke Rodri’s transfer record from Atlético de Madrid last season with a £ 62.8 million tag. On the one hand, City also ceded ownership to Nicolás Otamendi who moved to Benfica for a price of 15 million euros and will be hired for three years.
Coach Pep Guardiola was very insistent on bringing Dias, breaking the club’s transfer record. The reason is that he needs a formidable defense at the rear, after Vincent Kompany left him last year.
The 2-5 loss to Leicester City further demonstrates how deteriorated City’s defense is, despite having several quality players from center to front. With the presence of Dias, can this problem be solved? Only time can answer that.
“The club hasn’t told me anything … so far they haven’t told me anything,” Guardiola said in response to a question about Rubén Dias’ transfer last night.
