Large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), which are again strictly enforced in DKI Jakarta, are claimed to reduce the percentage of active cases of the Corona virus (COVID-19) in the capital. There are allegations of political flavor behind the strict implementation of the PSBB which has now spread.
The claim for the decrease in active cases was transmitted by the provincial government of DKI Jakarta (Pemprov) through its official Instagram account, as seen detikcom last Saturday (7/26/2020). The slowdown in active cases is said to have come after DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan hit the emergency brake by reintroducing the PSBB.
According to data revealed by the provincial government of DKI, active COVID-19 cases from September 12 to 23, 2020 amounted to 12 percent. This number has decreased by 49 percent compared to active cases that occurred from August 30 to September 11, 2020.
“The increase in active cases in Jakarta has slowed from 49% to 12% since Governor Anies Baswedan made the decision to remove the emergency brake and reimposed the strict PSBB since September 14,” the account wrote. Instagram of the provincial government of DKI Jakarta.
DKI Jakarta’s strict PSBB now runs until October 11, 2020. Although the PSBB was expanded, Anies explained that there were already signs of positive cases and active cases in Jakarta.
This claim received criticism from the PDIP faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD. The claim is deemed inconsistent with the facts on the ground.

“The implementation of the strict PSBB that was imposed for almost 14 days has not shown the results that Pak Anies transmitted to the public. Because, this strict PSBB has not been able to change the habits of the citizens of the capital to obey the implementation of the protocols health, although this should be what Mr Anies should encourage, “F-PDIP DPRD DKI Jakarta President Gembong Warsono told reporters on Sunday (9/27/2020).
Gembong accused Anies Baswedan’s strict PSBB policy of being political. She even said that Anies was only looking for a stage through this policy.
“The plan to extend the PSBB is strict until October 11, it smells very political, rather than the desire to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The fact so far, the PSBB has not been seriously applied. It is proven that in the densely populated markets and settlements there is no socialization and compliance effort, “Gembong said.
“Also, it should be suspected that PSBB was only used as a stage by the governor to remain news material. And Anies was too busy playing PSBB,” he continued.
