JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – An investigation by a research team from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) found the possibility of a major earthquake and tsunami in southern Java.

The research was conducted on the basis of two aspects of the study, namely the combination of GPS data and correlated earthquake data. The southern part of Java has the potential for earthquakes in West Java, Central Java and East Java.

If these areas experience an earthquake simultaneously, then the worst possibility is a potential earthquake of up to M 9.1.

Research published in Nature Scientific Report on Thursday (9/17/2020) also noted that the earthquake could generate a tsunami with a wave height of up to 20 meters.
