President Jokowi compares pandemic conditions in RI, the US, and India.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo emphasized that the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic was not only experienced by Indonesia, but also 215 countries in various parts of the world.

Jokowi then compared the impact of the pandemic in Indonesia to several other countries, such as the United States and India.

This was transmitted by Jokowi when he virtually inaugurated the Parmusi IV Congress, on Saturday (9/26/2020).

“The Parmusi congress this time was held in a different atmosphere amidst our nation facing the greatest tests of Allah SWT, and humanity around the world also faced the same,” Jokowi said during opening remarks from the Bogor Palace.

Jokowi noted that as of September 26, 2020, the number of Covid-19 cases in 215 countries had reached 32.7 million people. The total exposed in Indonesia has reached 266,845 people as of yesterday.

Then, Jokowi compared this number with other countries.

“Let’s see in the United States 7.2 million people, in India 5.9 million people, in Brazil 4.6 million people, in Russia 1.1 million people,” Jokowi said.

The death toll worldwide, Jokowi said, has reached 991,000 people. Meanwhile, the number of deaths from Covid-19 in Indonesia has exceeded 10,000.

The Head of State added that world economic growth has also slowed due to this pandemic. Growth, which was normally positive, contracted sharply in the major economies.

In the second quarter of 2020, India minus 23.9 percent, the United Kingdom minus 21.7 percent, Malaysia minus 17.1 percent, and Singapore minus 13.2 percent.

“And in our country in the second quarter it was also minus 5.32 percent, while previously in the first quarter we still grew positively at 2.97 percent,” continued Jokowi.

However, the Head of State invited the public not to give up on the situation. He emphasized that the government cannot face this pandemic alone.

Therefore, Jokowi invited all people to join with discipline to carry out health protocols, such as wearing masks, keeping their distance, and washing their hands regularly.

In addition, he also asked people to help others during this difficult time.

“We must continue to strive, strive with all our might to control the spread of Covid-19 and at the same time help our brothers and sisters not to get worse due to economic difficulties,” Jokowi said.
