Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese media claim that the World Health Organization (WHO) approved a vaccine manufactured in the country. In fact, the country’s official media CGTV load headline “China’s Covid-19 Vaccine Succeeds In Clinical Trials – WHO”.

The media took excerpts from a statement at a press conference by a senior WHO official, Soumya Swaminathan, WHO chief scientist. In the media report, Swaminathan was quoted as saying that WHO would help distribute the vaccine.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) is working to ensure equitable access to the Covid-19 vaccine globally, believing that this is the fastest way to end the pandemic and accelerate the global economic recovery.” Swaminathan said, as reported by CGTV, Wednesday (9/23/2020).

“Vaccines from China may help achieve that goal in the near future because some vaccines have been shown to be successful in clinical trials.”

Meanwhile, from the video images released in the media, Swaminathan was quoted as saying that China has several coronavirus vaccines that have proven successful in clinical trials.

“They also have a very active vaccine development program and some of their vaccine candidates are in the advanced clinical trial phase. This is what interests us.

“We are following them very closely. Some of the candidates [vaksin] they have actually been shown to be successful in ongoing clinical trials, “he said in the 22-second video.

CNBC Indonesia has contacted the WHO regarding this matter, but has not received a response.
