The government issues new PPs, passports can be valid for 10 years

The government has just issued new regulations related to immigration. In the regulation, the period of validity is discussed passport that was only five years old now has a longer validity period of 10 years.

This rule is contained in Government Regulation Number 51 of 2020 on immigration. The regulation was said to have been signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on September 10 as an amendment to the previous rule, namely Government Regulation No. 31 of 2013 on the application of the Law number 6 of 2011 on immigration.


In a copy of the rules accessed CNNIndonesia.com, there are some changes listed in the DB. One of the changes listed in article 51, paragraph 1, concerns the validity of the passport.

“(1) The period of validity of ordinary passports is not more than 10 (ten) years from the date of issue,” the article said.

Meanwhile, in the previous regulation, namely PP 31 of 2013 on immigration, it is established in the same article that the period of validity of passports only reaches five years.

“The validity of a normal Passport is the longest of 5 (five) years from the date of issuance,” said the old PP rule on the validity of the passport.

CNNIndonesia.com has tried to contact the Head of the Public Relations Branch of the Directorate General for Immigration, Ahmad Nursaleh, to confirm and ask questions about the copy of the Government Regulations. However, the respondent has not yet responded to the short message and the phone.
