KOMPAS.com – On Twitter social media, netizens are busy discussing the new policy on the validity period of Indonesian passports.
One of the netizens uploaded a tweet attaching a new regulation regarding this rule.
In the photo uploaded by one of the citizens, it is shown that the new policy regulates the validity of ordinary passports for 10 years, whereas previously ordinary passports were only valid for 5 years.
The head of Public Relations of the General Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Arvin Gumilang, confirmed the circulating information.
“It is true, currently Government Regulation Number 51 of 2020 has been issued that regulates the validity of ordinary passports for a maximum of 10 years,” said Arvin, when contacted. Kompas.com, Thursday (9/24/2020) afternoon.

Waiting for the rules to be implemented
However, the implementation of this new policy is still awaiting the implementing regulations, so this new regulation has not yet entered into force.
“But of course, we are still waiting for the implementation of regulations that regulate various things, including the PNPB rate. Currently it does not (apply),” Arvin said.
He said the implementation of this rule will be announced further.
Meanwhile, the launch of Government Regulation Number 51 of 2020 on the Second Amendment to Government Regulation Number 31 of 2013 regarding the Implementation Regulations of Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration, point two establishes the amendment to paragraph (1) of Article 51 of Government Regulation Number 31 of 2013.

This policy also stipulates that the term for issuing passports is usually within a maximum of four days from the fulfillment of all the stipulated conditions.
Looking further, it is written that the period of validity of an ordinary passport, which was originally five years maximum, must be extended.
The reason is that it becomes ineffective to replace passports when there are still enough passport pages but the validity period has expired.
