jpnn.com, KAIRO – The government of Saudi Arabia has decided to reopen the Umrah service.
The SPA News Agency, on Tuesday (9/22), said that pilgrims from within the country can perform the Umrah pilgrimage from October 4, 2020 and November 1, 2020 for pilgrims from abroad.
Earlier, the Saudis closed their umrah services, which Muslims normally do in Mecca and Medina throughout the year, since March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The reopening of the Umrah service means allowing up to 6,000 citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah every day.
According to the SPA report, only 30 percent of the normal capacity of 20,000 pilgrims can make the daily Umrah pilgrimage, as a measure to prevent the transmission of the virus.
The capacity of the new daily umrah will increase to 75 percent after two weeks, on October 18, 2020.
Meanwhile, for opening in early November, Saudi Arabia will only allow Umrah pilgrims from a number of special countries that are considered safe, with 100 percent capacity until the end of the pandemic.
In addition to Umrah, the previous Saudi government also restricted the pilgrimage service, which can normally gather around three million people from around the world, to just a few thousand domestic worshipers.
Official data shows that Haj and Umrah services generate revenue for Saudi Arabia of up to US $ 12 billion (equivalent to Rp177 trillion) per year.
