Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Saudi Arabia reopened the door to Umrah as of October 4, 2020. This was confirmed by the Ministry of Haj and Umrah after suspending the trip for seven months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In the first phase, 6,000 citizens and residents will be able to perform Umrah per day from October 4,” the ministry quoted by AFP said from the Saudi Arabian Press Office on Wednesday (9/23/2020).

Visitors from outside the kingdom will be allowed entry beginning November 1. The capacity, at that time, will be increased to 20,000 faithful per day.

Later, when the threat of a pandemic is deemed to have disappeared, the Umrah will be allowed to its normal capacity. “Its full natural capacity will eliminate the threat of a pandemic,” the ministry said.

Umrah has been closed since March. While Hajj is carried out very strictly, only Saudis and foreigners living in the country can present proof of being free from Covid-19.

The hajj in July was attended by only 10,000 residents. Although the normal period is up to 2.5 million people.

“(It is) the aspiration of Muslims at home and abroad to” perform rituals and visit holy places, “another ministry statement said.

Currently, the country of King Salman has registered a total of 330,000 corona infections, with more than 4,500 deaths. Saudi Arabia is under Iran in most cases in the Middle Eastern country.

But Saudi Arabia has also reported a high recovery rate, surpassing 312,000 on Tuesday. Last week, Saudi Arabia partially lifted its suspension of international flights, six months after travel restrictions were imposed due to the pandemic.
