jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) predicted that the start of this year’s rainy season will begin in late October.

However, heavy rains have now occurred in various regions of Indonesia. In fact, flash floods occurred in Sukabumi and Bogor districts.

The floods also affected several areas in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/22) this morning.

BMKG explained that the heavy rains on Monday night were caused by unstable atmospheric conditions, reinforced by the Rossby equatorial wave phenomenon and the presence of a convergence area.

“The combination of these three atmospheric phenomena increases the potential for rain cloud growth around West Java,” BMKG Meteorology Deputy Guswanto said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday (9/21) there were flash floods in the Bogor and Sukabumi Regencies caused by heavy rains.

High intensity rainfall of up to 110 mm was observed in Citeko in a period of 4 hours (15.00-19.00 WIB).

In regards to this incident, BMKG has issued extreme weather early warning information on a 3-hour timescale for the West Java region prior to the flash floods on September 21, 2020, 5 times from 1:45 p.m. WIB to 22.50 WIB.
