Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Former Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli | say presidential threshold or presidential threshold it became one of the bases for the emergence of criminal democracy or cukong democracy in Indonesia.
The presidential threshold established in Law Number 7 of 2017 on Elections is 20 percent of the seats in the DPR or 25 percent of the valid votes at the national level.
This is what Rizal said when he transmitted the reasons for presenting a judicial review of the Electoral Law on the presidential threshold in the trial in the Constitutional Court, on Monday (9/21).
Rizal said that the democratic system of people has changed more and more today and has resulted in a criminal democracy oriented to monetary policy or dowry in each candidacy.
“One of the cornerstones of that criminal base is there presidential threshold The 20 percent, (later) is given in the regent election, it must pay the party, like this for example, “said Rizal.
Rizal said that the candidates, both presidents and regional chiefs who do not have sufficient funds to pay tribute to the political parties that will carry them out, have done so in various ways, one of which is to use the cukong to meet their needs. during the election.
Until the end, Rizal said, when they were elected they would no longer be on the side of the people, but would honor debts and accounts receivable from the cukong. According to him, the existence of the rule only benefits a few parties.
“These candidates do not have money, so what happens is that once elected they forget their responsibility to the people or the nation, instead they are busy serving the city,” he said.
On that occasion, Rizal also said that the threshold also hampered the emergence of truly credible candidates. He said many of the candidates that emerged were only encouraged by the party, but did not have the capacity.
“In our opinion, this is what destroys Indonesia’s democracy, it is incapable of doing justice,” he said.
Today the Constitutional Court (MK) conducts a judicial review of the presidential threshold as stipulated in the Electoral Law with an agenda of preliminary examinations.
The request submitted by Rizal and Abdulrachim Kresno is registered under case number 74 / PUU-XVIII / 2020. Rizal and Abdulrachim, accompanied by their lawyer Refly Harun, registered the judicial review of the Electoral Law before the Constitutional Court, last Friday (4/9).
