LONDON – Chelsea manager Frank Lampard commented on the red card his team, Andreas Christensen, received in the game against Liverpool. According to him, the referee could not have given Christensen a red card as punishment after committing a violation.

Chelsea must swallow a bitter pill when they host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge Stadium on Sunday 20 September 2020, WIB. The home team is forced to play with only 10 people.

This is because Christensen received a red card at the end of the first half after stopping Sadio Mane by hugging him and knocking out the Senegalese winger. The match in the first half ended with a score of 0-0.

The condition of Chelsea, who only played with 10 people, turned out to be taken advantage of by Liverpool. As a result, the Reds scored two goals, nicknamed Liverpool, which led to a 2-0 win.

The main player, Sadio Mane, scored two goals for Liverpool. The player with a Senegalese passport successfully broke into Chelsea’s goal on two occasions in the second half, to be precise in the 50th and 54th minutes.

Lampard himself considered that Christensen’s offense could not end on a red card. However, he was reluctant to complain about the referee’s decisions during the game against Liverpool.

“It’s not sure, they can get it or not (red card). After yellow became the first decision, you felt very important that it was red to make a difference and I’m not sure about that,” said Lampard, quoted from Chelsea’s official website, on Monday (09/21/2020).

“I’m not going to sit here complaining too much, but it’s something that I feel like I can give or not. My direction at rest wanted the players to have more confidence in ball possession,” he continued.

“Because we create little moments when we can get him out of midfield and the wings help the attack. That should have been the basis of our match in the second half, but the red card changed everything,” said the England manager.
