The number of doctors dying from COVID-19 continues to increase by the day. On September 17, the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Mitigation Team recorded that 117 doctors had died due to exposure to COVID-19.

PB IDI Mitigation Team Chair, Dr. Adib Khumaidi, SpOT, highlighted the sharp increase in physician deaths in Indonesia due to one of the causes of the fact that the public is still ignorant of the implementation of the health protocols requested by government. He stressed that the community must be at the forefront in addressing the COVID-19 outbreak, not medical personnel.

“Indonesia has not even reached the peak of the first wave of this pandemic due to the massive indiscipline of health protocols. If this continues, Indonesia will become the epicenter of COVID-19 in the world, which will have an impact yet worst in the economy and health of our country, “said Dr. Adib. a statement received by detikcom, Friday (9/18/2020).

A total of 117 deceased physicians were divided into 53 specialist physicians, 2 resident physicians and 62 general practitioners.
