Videos of Unesa seniors snapping at new students during the ospek or Introduction to New Student Life on Campus (PKKMB) of the Faculty of Education (FIP) went viral on social media. Unesa also provided an explanation of the chronology of the incident online.
Unesa’s head of Public Relations Vinda Maya Setianingrum explained that when the incident went viral on Monday night (9/14), his party immediately coordinated with related parties. Both with campus leaders and with the IFJ.
“So we identified the chronology. In fact, it was our video during the PKKMB process. It happened on Wednesday (9/9),” Vinda told reporters at the Unesa Rectorate on Tuesday (9/15/2020) .
Vinda said that the opening of PKKMB will start on Monday (7/9). And on Wednesday (9/9) there is a series of PKKMB in each faculty. However, what went viral because freshmen yelled at the IFJ.
The Unesa party, Vinda said, also agreed and strongly disagreed with the existence of violence in any form. Both verbal and non-verbal, whether online or offline.
“This is an important note for us. We agree that at this time, violence in any form is very regrettable,” he explained.
Today, Vinda continued, his party will also coordinate with related students, as well as the disciplinary commission (komdis) to the freshmen in question.
“Today we will coordinate with students, BEM, komdis and related students. We will evaluate them together,” concluded Vinda.
