Yamaha’s Monster Energy Rider, Maverick Vinales, often struggled during races. Valentino Rossi revealed why.

At the San Marino MotoGP, on Sunday (9/13/2020) WIB night, Vinales finished sixth. He did not know how to take advantage of the start from pole.

Viñales logged 42 minutes and 7,655 seconds to complete 27 laps in MotoGP sixth series this season. He was 5,383 seconds slower than Franco Morbidelli, who won the race at Misano.

This season, this isn’t the only time Vinales has failed to build on his leading start. In the Austrian MotoGP, the 25-year-old also took pole. At the end of the race, he ranked 10th.

Viñales’ teammate Rossi revealed the reason the Spaniard struggled to compete on race day.

“Some things also depend on the DNA of each driver. Maverick is very strong in fast laps, he often sets impressive times, and throughout my career I have always been stronger during the race,” said Rossi in GP One.

“But today the front tire made the difference, Viñales put the hard tire on, I also thought he would make the same decision. But then I changed my mind 10 minutes before starting. That was key,” said the 41-year-old.

Viñales has not managed to win in the six 2020 MotoGP series. Since he achieved the second podium in the Spanish MotoGP and the Andalusian MotoGP, he has not been able to get on the podium again.

Meanwhile, Rossi has only been on the podium once. The Doctor achieved it by finishing third in the MotoGP of Andalusia.

With the appearance of the riders, the official Yamaha team lost to the satellite team in the MotoGP team classification. Petronas Yamaha SRT is in first place with 127 points, 11 points ahead of the factory team.
