KOMPAS.com – Two weeks ago, RRI technicians section, Nunukan Roby, searched fishing spots for RRI Head of New Media Engineering Section (TMB) Nunukan Syafri Razak who wanted to channel his hobby.
He saw an unnatural appearance on the satellite photo’s computer monitor. Roby immediately enlarged it and found the appearance of what was supposedly a giant crocodile.
“I zoom twice, the image is very clear, there is a muzzle, body, legs to the tail, I immediately thought about how to determine the size,” said Roby. Kompas.com, Friday (12/9/2020).

Roby said that in the screenshot he took, two objects were recorded, the first was a suspected sighting of a giant crocodile and the other was a fishing boat.
The crocodile was in front of a passing fishing boat.
Intrigued by the apparent size of the crocodile, Roby tried using the menu on Goggle Maps.
“We measure the distance in the Google Maps menu, the shape is clear, there is a snout, body and tail, but the size is not reasonable, the size of a crocodile is much larger than a passing fishing boat. The boat measures only 12 meters, it’s still a long crocodile, 3 meters again, ” he explained.
Seeing this fact, he was silent for a long time and thought, could there be such a large crocodile in the waters of Nunukan?
“Finally, when I showed the sighting, all my friends looked and looked for the size, the one that came out was still 15 meters long by 2.5 meters wide, finally the fishing schedule was canceled,” he said again.
Write to google
To further convince him that the satellite photo he captured is actually a giant crocodile, Roby took the initiative to write to Google.
Roby said, even if there were mistakes exploration Satellite at that time, of course, there were areas that looked blurry and something was clearly visible, but in the area where the crocodile was, it was never different and the ratio remained the same.
“We know that satellite photos are updated every 3 months, I ask, when was the last time a satellite photo was taken for the North Kalimantan area? There is an image of a crocodile that is 15 meters long and 2.5 meters wide in the water, “Roby wrote in the letter.

Unfortunately, Google has not responded to the email you sent.
“There has been no response, but it is necessary warning For the community, this is where fishermen most often seek fish and fishermen, “said Roby.
Meanwhile, the photo captured by Google Maps shocked the people of Nunukan, North Kalimantan.
“I immediately uploaded it to social networks, regardless of whether the precision was 15 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, but its existence is very dangerous, because the waters are fishing grounds and fishermen look for fish,” he said. Ilham Zain, the community that uploaded the crocodile exhibit. the giant on Facebook with the account of Ilham Zain, Friday (11/09/2020).
The charge immediately became a hot topic with a long debate due to its unnatural size, even the longest crocodile in the world is less than a dozen meters.
“As a warning, hopefully there are no unwanted things. What is clear is that the crocodiles are in the waters, the name of the waters of Mansapa, and in fact the waters are the habitat of the crocodiles ”, he explained.
