KOMPAS.com – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan made the decision to remove the emergency brake and re-implement large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).
The decision was made after considering a number of factors, including the availability of hospital beds that were almost full, the trend of active cases in Jakarta, which has increased again, and the number of funerals based on the Covid- procedure. 19, which has also increased.
Therefore, the implementation of the transitional PSBB in Jakarta was revoked and the PSBB was re-implemented on September 14.
“There are not many options for Jakarta except to apply the emergency brake as soon as possible,” Anies reported by Kompas.com, on Wednesday (9/9/2020).

Welcome epidemiologists
The decision made by Anies was well received by Indonesian epidemiologists.
An epidemiologist at Airlangga University in Surabaya, Windhu Purnomo said that the PSBB should have been done.
However, he noted, this PSBB should be taken seriously and not play games like six months ago.
“The current PSBB, of course, must be serious. Because from the experience we have seen, the previous PSBB was not real,” Windhu told Kompas.com on Thursday (10/9/2020).
“Only the name is PSBB but there are still many things that are violated and without strict sanctions.”
Windhu sees that Indonesia is currently in a critical phase with a Covid-19 positive case rate of over 200,000.
This confirmed number could be less than the cases in the field considering that the number of tests in Indonesia is less than the standard.
Additionally, Windhu recalled that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the US center for disease control and prevention had issued a level three warning for Covid-19 cases in Indonesia.
On its official website, the CDC advises tourists to avoid all non-essential international travel to Indonesia.
“Level 3, the highest level. People can’t come to Indonesia, even Indonesian people can’t go out,” Windhu said.
“Level 3 is already very scary. Many countries have banned us,” he added.
Windhu said that level three is a very scary level and it is not surprising that many countries have banned their citizens from coming to Indonesia in the meantime.
Therefore, the manipulation in DKI Jakarta and throughout Indonesia can no longer play.
“It is good for DKI (Jakarta) to implement the PSBB from 14 (September). But it really has to be serious,” Windhu said.
He conveyed that serious PSBB meant not allowing human movement both within and outside the region.
As we know, the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus occurs through human contact.
Meanwhile, Indonesian epidemiologist at Australia’s Griffith University, Dicky Budiman, said that the PSBB is an additional strategy to cope with a pandemic.
This effort aims to prevent or reduce human mobility so that Covid-19 transmission does not spread.
But on the other hand, this must also be accompanied by tests or tests through PCR tests and tracing or tracing of close contacts of the Covid-19 case.
“By limiting the movement of people, the risk of transmission will be minimized. This PSBB is to give the hospital time to treat patients who are currently booming,” Dicky told Kompas.com on Thursday (10/9/2020 ).

Strict penalties
With the current situation in Indonesia, PSBB regulations should also be accompanied by strict legal sanctions.
“If there are no strict sanctions, violations are very likely to occur,” Windhu said.
He said that strict penalties should not target only each individual. However, it also applies to any corporation or institution that violates this PSBB.
Therefore, Windhu hopes that a clear and severe legal umbrella for PSBB violations will soon be issued.
“We can’t do it if we appeal or submit to the public conscience, we can’t,” he said.
“There are many people who are stubborn. Not only people, there are also many stubborn officials. Without giving examples and so on.”
It even considered that criminal sanctions could be applied to offenders of the PSBB.
“Because if we deliberately rape (PSBB), we are actually killing other people, not just ourselves,” he concluded.
