KOMPAS.com – The head of Natural Resources Conservation Region II, Gresik Wiwid Widodo, has directly observed the thin-seeming Sumatran tiger at the Maharani Zoo and Goa Lamongan.
Wiwid and the team came with doctors from the Wild Rescue Unit (WRU) and a team from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University, Surabaya.
In addition, there were representatives of the Regional Coordination Agency who were ordered by East Java Deputy Governor Emil Dardak to directly monitor the condition of the Sumatran tiger.
According to Wiwid, the observation was carried out until the evening. They weigh the Sumatran animal called Baksi.
After being observed, the tiger named Baksi was not thin, as seen in the viral video on social media.
“The Sumatran tiger on behalf of Baksi is not thin, it is also not malnourished. We have also verified, there is no history of disease. Secondly, the nutrition record is also normal,” Widodo said when contacted on Wednesday (9 / 9/2020).

The BKSDA team matched the appearance of Baksi’s body based on body conditioning score (BCS). Pairing is done to determine if the animal is in the slim, ideal, fat or over weight.
“If Baksi is still at the ideal level. Then it is a line up dominant with hamstrings still straight. If it is concave, pull it up, then it will become thin, if it is slanted down. over weight“Widodo said.
After weighing him down, Baksi’s weight reached 103 kilograms. According to Widodo, the weight is in accordance with the standard for adult Sumatran tigers.
“The results showed that the standard weight of adult Sumatran tigers is around 100 to 140 kilograms,” Widodo said.
15 years
According to the data obtained, Baksi was born in 2005 and is almost 15 years old.
According to Widodo, Sumatran tigers in the wild can survive up to 15-18 years.
“This means that Baksi is old. If he is old, he can follow the 100-140 kilogram weight, which means that he is still quite good,” he said.
The BKSDA team from East Java Region II also compared Baksi to the donggala tiger, which is larger in size.
The team took videos and photos of the donggala tiger from above, such as Baksi’s video that went viral on social media.
“I tried to take a photo like the one in the video, from above, let’s compare it to the great Donggala tiger. Same thing, it looks thin, it looks thin from above,” Widodo said.

Widodo is sure that whoever uploaded the video did not think anymore that his upload was discussed by the public. He hopes the video will be a lesson for all parties.
“Because the person in question does not know, if you take it from above everything looks thin and so on. Wong took a picture and di-destination Usually there doesn’t seem to be any trend, ”Widodo said.
Treated in a special cage
According to Widodo, the Maharani and Goa Lamongan Zoo administration have taken good care of the animals. The contribution of vitamins, feed and nutrition is done regularly.
“But, on the condition of (Baksi) old age, it shouldn’t be able to show itself. Yes, if people understand that the animal is old, if you don’t understand it it will be considered thin,” he continued.
The Maharani Zoo and Goa Lamongan were asked to provide special care cages for older animals like Baksi.
“Yesterday we recommended that there be a special area for more intensive care for old animals. Not just tigers you knowBut all animals are old, “Widodo said.
