Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The study of the corona vaccine carried out by the company AstraZeneca in citizens of the United States (USA) was stopped. Previously, the company and the University of Oxford were the most advanced in the manufacture of the corona vaccine (Covid-19).

This came after an alleged serious adverse reaction to a volunteer from England. A company spokesperson said it was temporarily suspended for a safety review.

Unfortunately, the reaction of the volunteers is not certain. However, a source with knowledge of the matter said the volunteers were expected to recover soon.

“This interruption is a routine thing to do every time there is a potential disease, which cannot be explained (shows up) in one of the trials,” STAT wrote, citing an AstraZeneca spokesperson, on Wednesday (9/9/2020). .

“While investigating, we maintain the integrity of the test,” the company said again, emphasizing that it was working quickly to minimize the impact of the test.

This type of clinical delay is common. However, it is unclear how long AstraZeneca will do this.

STAT sources said the outage had an impact on vaccine testing being conducted by other vaccine manufacturers. There are currently 9 vaccine candidates that are entering phase three (final) of human trials.

Meanwhile, another source said that researchers are now looking for other cases of adverse reactions to vaccine recipients. Reactions classified as serious adverse events were described in illnesses requiring hospitalization, life-threatening illnesses, and even death.

In the US, AstraZaneca’s final trial has been held since the end of August at 62 locations. Previously, 2/3 of the tests had been carried out in England, Brazil and South Africa.
