He accompanied the Indonesian national team to compete in the 2010 AFF Cup and led Garuda’s team to the top of the game.

Unfortunately, at the top of the match, Indonesia was defeated by Malaysia 2-4 on aggregate in the two-match match.

In the first leg at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia lost 1-3.

Meanwhile, in the second leg at Bung Karno’s main stadium, Indonesia won 2-1, but that result was not enough for Garuda’s team to win the biennial competition.

At that time, the Indonesian team was still strengthened by players like Hamka Hamzah, Maman Abdurrahman, or Cristian Gonzales.

Shortly after, he chose not to continue his career in the Indonesian national team, although in 2012 he decided to return to Indonesia.

Riedl then returned to coach the Indonesian national team at the 2014 AFF Cup.

However, the Austrian man’s touch was not as sexy as before. The Indonesian national team failed to pass the group stage.

His last career with the Indonesian national team occurred in 2016.

For the second time, Alfred Riedl led the Indonesian team to the final of the AFF Cup.
