Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump recently received a ‘reprimand’ from the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz. He warned Trump about Palestinian independence.
As is well known, Trump continues to work for peace between the Arab countries and Israel. But over the phone, King Salman told Trump Arab that he would not normalize relations with Israel if the proposed solution was unfair.
The Arabs will only normalize relations with Israel as long as there is a deal for a Palestinian state. This is in accordance with the actual 2002 proposal.
“Israel must also completely withdraw troops from territories taken since the 1967 Middle East war,” he told Reuters on Monday (6/9/2020).
Trump’s insistence came about due to the decision of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to open relations with Israel. The two countries are now cooperating on diplomatic and aviation relations.
Previously, White House adviser Jared Kushner, who is also Trump’s son-in-law, has directly accompanied the Israeli delegation to the United Arab Emirates to discuss the normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel in Abu Dhabi.
He then continued to tour countries in the other Gulf region starting Tuesday, aiming to “attract” more countries to follow in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates, although the move has drawn much criticism.
As is well known, Israel and Palestine are “eternal enemies”, because both sides have been involved in the war for thousands of years. The essence of the debate between the two countries is the fight for territory.
According to Kiro 7, the dispute initially occurred when the Palestinian territories, which are located along the Mediterranean coast, were occupied by Israel. This country was created from an agreement between groups of nations after World War II.
However, from its inception, Israel and the United Nations (UN) that formed it were immediately attacked by Arabs in the Middle East. They also recognize the Israeli-occupied areas around the holy city of Jerusalem as their own.
Since then, Israeli-Palestinian relations supported by the Arab state have continued to deteriorate. The two sides continued to be involved in conflict and war, taking lives and destroying the economy.
In March 2002, the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit level formed an agreement in Beirut. The agreement contains about Israel’s peace plan with Palestine.
According to The Guardian, one of the points of the agreement was to reaffirm a resolution adopted in June 1996 at the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo.
That a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is a strategic option for the Arab states, which will be achieved in accordance with international legality, and which will require a commitment from the Israeli government.
Additionally, the agreement also addresses Israel’s total withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied since June 1967.
This includes Israel’s acceptance of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in exchange for establishing normal relations in the context of a comprehensive peace with Israel.
