Padang, CNN Indonesia –

The West Sumatra duo of candidates for governor and lieutenant governor (To show off), Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni decided to return the PDIP recommendation letter within Concurrent regional elections 2020. They presented another letter of recommendation after the controversial statement by PDIP DPP President Puan Maharani on West Sumatra and Pancasila.

In his statement last week, Puan hoped that West Sumatra would become a province that supports Pancasila. This comment immediately drew criticism from various groups, including West Sumatran community leaders.

A political observer from the University of Andalas, Asrinaldi, assessed that Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni’s decision to return the PDIP recommendation to anticipate the problem that Puan will be used by his political opponents in the five-year contest.

Other than that, Asrinaldi said, the Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni couple wanted to respond to public requests and a number of figures who wanted the couple not to use the PDIP decree.

“Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni returned the PDIP decree because this problem could be capitalized on an issue to bring them down,” Asrinaldi told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (5/9).

Asrinaldi said that Mulyadi-Ali could have been abandoned by the community if they decided not to return the PDIP recommendation. According to him, Mulyadi-Ali’s vote acquisition could be eroded by 2 to 3 percent if the theme is used during the campaign period.

“These elite groups and figures have masses although they have little influence, about 2-3 percent of the votes of Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni,” said the FISIP speaker.

Additionally, Asrinaldi said that the influence of the PDIP was actually not that great for the Mulyadi-Ali couple. According to him, the people of West Sumatra are not oriented towards the party, but towards the leading candidates.

In fact, he said public confidence in the Mulyadi-Ali couple returned after the two returned the party’s recommendation with white muzzles.

Meanwhile, Padang State University political observer Eka Vidya said the Mulyadi-Ali couple picked up momentum by returning the PDIP recommendation. According to him, the couple also tried to listen and fight for the aspirations of the community.

“Another goal is to reduce attacks by opponents. The use of the PDIP decree after Puan’s statement added ammunition to attack Mulyadi-Ali,” said the professor of Political Sociology.

Still, Vidya said that the PDIP’s influence on the Mulyadi-Ali couple’s vote-taking was not that great in the West Sumatran Pilgub either. According to him, Mulyadi-Ali will only lose votes from the PDIP cadres.

Puan’s statement about West Sumatra’s hopes of supporting Pancasila resulted in a controversy in the community. Finally, the couple of candidates for governor and lieutenant governor Mulyadi-Ali decided to return the letter of recommendation from the PDIP.

The PDIP also decided not to participate in the 2020 West Sumatra Pilkada. Therefore, the Mulyadi-Ali Mukhni couple was only promoted by the Democratic Party and the PAN.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said Mulyadi was not strong in acting as a leader because he returned the PDIP letter of recommendation after a controversy over Puan’s statement. According to him, Puan only hopes that the people of West Sumatra can be even better and emulate the heroes of the nation.
