KOMPAS.com World number one Novak Djokovic was disqualified from the 2020 US Open after hitting the ball to the linesman.
Novak Djokovic, who is the top seed of the 2020 US Open, challenged 20th seed Pablo Carreño Busta in the fourth round at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday morning (7/9/2020) of the WIB.
However, Djokovic’s play at this year’s US Open had to be stopped after he was disqualified for hitting the linesman.
Djokovic looked upset after losing serve at 5-6 to Pablo Carreno Busta.

The Serb then hit the ball towards the woman behind him.
The ball thrown by Djokovic was seen hitting the linesman’s body, precisely in his throat.
The woman then fell while holding her neck. Djokovic then went to the woman and saw his condition.

Referee Soeren Friemel left his place to consult with Head Referee Aurelie Tourte and Grand Slam Supervisor Andreas Egli.

They held talks with tournament officials and Djokovic.
After a long discussion, Djokovic was finally sentenced to disqualification. The 33-year-old also packed her racket and left the field.
Meanwhile, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said Novak Djokovic had taken reckless action by hitting the ball to the linesman.
“According to the Grand Slam rule book, following actions of striking the ball in a dangerous or reckless manner on the field or hitting the ball regardless of the consequences, the tournament referee eliminated Novak Djokovic from the US Open 2020.” reads the official USTA statement cited by BBC.
Not only by being disqualified, Djokovic will also be fined for his actions.
“Because he was fired, Djokovic will lose all qualifying points earned at the US Open and will be fined for the prize money won at the tournament.”

Novak Djokovic was actually a candidate to win the 2020 US Open, which was held behind closed doors and became the first Grand Slam tournament during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Before fighting Pablo Carreño Busta, Djokovic set a graceful record by never losing in 2020.
The 2020 US Open is actually a golden opportunity for Djokovic to win his 18th Grand Slam title, while also closing in on the records of his two rivals Rafael Nadal (19) and Roger Federer (20).
Previously, Novak Djokovic had won the US Open three times, in 2011, 2015, and finally 2018.
