Portugal host Croatia in the UEFA Nations League match. Appearing without Cristiano Ronaldo, Selecao beat Croatia 4-1.
Portugal and Croatia are in Group 3. The two teams will meet at Estadio Do Dragao on Sunday (9/6/2020).
Croatia made a threat to Portugal in the first minute. Nikola Vlasic shot hard from outside the area, but the ball was cleared by Anthony Lopes.
It was Croatia’s only chance in the first half. Defending UEFA Nations League champion Portugal consistently beat Croatia.
There were two shots from the Portuguese player that hit the Croatian goalpost. First through Diogo Jota in the 26th minute and Raphael Guerreiro in the 33rd minute.
Portugal’s hard work only paid off in the 41st minute. Joao Cancelo broke Dominik Livakovic’s goal with a shot from outside the area. Portugal took the lead 1-0 in the first half.
The second half continued to be dominated by Portugal, who played without Cristiano Ronaldo due to injury. Diogo Jota gave Seleco a 2-0 lead after his shot from close range in the 58th minute was not cleared by Livakovic.
Croatia slowly tried to get to the press. Zlatko Dalic’s team played long balls to go straight to Portugal, but this method was ineffective.
Portugal was even able to increase the lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute. It was Joao Félix’s turn to start the Croatian goal from outside the penalty area after using a pass from Bernardo Silva.
Croatia reduced the score to 1-3 in injury time with Bruno Petkovic’s goal. Portugal responded again to close the match 4-1 through André Silva’s goal.
