DEPOK, KOMPAS.com – A 53-year-old Covid-19 positive patient committed suicide by jumping from a window on the 13th floor of the University Hospital of Indonesia, Depok, West Java, on Thursday afternoon (3/9/2020).

The head of the Depok Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Wadi Sabani, said the incident occurred at 10.50 WIB.

According to Wadi, shortly before the suicide, the nurses scheduled the nurse’s blood draw.

“Around 10:00 am, the witness (nurse) planned to take the victim’s blood, but had not yet had a chance to collect the victim’s blood. The witness received a call and left the room of the victim first. victim, “Wadi said in a written statement to reporters Thursday night.

While talking on the phone, the nurse heard the sound of glass breaking from inside the victim’s room.

“Then the witness looked inside and found that the glass in the window was broken,” Wadi said.

“After that, the witness tried to see from a different angle and saw the patient lying on the roof of the building (sixth floor) of UI Hospital,” he added.

Another nurse on duty on the fifth floor also provided similar information. She heard the sound of objects falling quite loudly from the room on the fifth floor.

“Then the witness went up to the sixth floor and found a patient lying on the sixth floor,” Wadi said.

From the results of the crime scene investigation, police suspect that the victim smashed the window glass on the 13th floor of the hospital with an oxygen cylinder.

The victim is a positive patient with Covid-19 domiciled in Tangerang and has been treated since August 27, 2020.

The patient’s supposed motive for committing suicide is not yet known. Public Relations of Hospital Universitas Indonesia, Kinanti, declined to comment on this incident.

“We have presented the handling of the case to the authorities. That is all we can convey,” he said briefly when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday afternoon.
