JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Executive Director of Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (PEN), Erick Thohir, opens the opportunity to extend the 600,000 rupees monthly salary subsidy assistance program.
Currently, the government will only provide wage subsidies to 15.7 million workers whose wages are below 5 million IDR by December 2020.
“We also hope that this program can continue, but now the decision is that the program can only run until December,” Erick said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday (2/9/2020).

The man who also serves as the minister of BUMN explained that this salary subsidy program will be distributed twice.
In the first phase, beneficiaries will transfer funds worth Rs 1.2 million for the September and October wage subsidies.
In the second phase, beneficiaries will receive a fund of Rs 1.2 million for wage subsidies for November and December.
“So we keep increasing and of course the remaining 1.2 million rupees will be paid in late October or early November,” said the former Inter Milan manager.
Erick hopes that this help from the government can increase the purchasing power of people amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Because this is a really useful program for employees who really need it or so far, it has certainly been hit hard by the presence of Covid-19,” he said.

Previously, Deputy Director of Public and Inter-Agency Relations BPJamsostek (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) Irvansyah Utoh Banja said that the data collection and account numbers of potential recipients of wage subsidy assistance (BSU) have now reached 14 million people. .
Meanwhile, the data that has been validated by BPJamsostek is 11.3 million workers.
As is known, the distribution of subsidized salary of Rs 600,000 per month for 4 months to workers earning less than Rs 5 million, the government does use data from BPJamsostek.
BPJamsostek is tasked with collecting and validating 15.7 million workers who will receive assistance. The distribution of wage subsidy assistance is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2020.
