Jakarta –
Indonesia’s U19 coach Shin Tae-yong is still looking for players of foreign origin. Who followed Jack Brown and Elkan Baggott?
The South Korean coach has stressed that the players he is looking for must have Indonesian blood. He had no plans to summon foreign players and naturalize them.
“In fact, we are currently looking for (Indonesian ancestry), but I cannot reveal his name. If the time is right, it will definitely be announced,” Shin Tae-yong told reporters on Friday (8/28/2020).
Previously, the topic of PSSI’s plans to naturalize five young players from Brazil was intense. The problem originated from the emergence of five players under the age of 20 who joined in and spread through Persija Jakarta, Arema FC and Madura United.
PSSI accidentally raised two names of the five players in a webinar with IDN Times last July. But Shin emphasized that he was not interested in using naturalized players.
“We are looking for naturalized players who have Indonesian blood (ancestry) for the development of Indonesian soccer, these players are necessary and necessary,” said Shin.
“There is no such thing for (the naturalization of Brazilian players). We want to look for players of Indonesian blood abroad, so that Indonesian football can develop a level.”
Only Jack Brown and Elkan Baggott are descendants and included in the training camp of the under-19 team. The two Anglo-Indonesian players are also included in the list of 30 players who will train in Croatia.
Still, Elkant will not necessarily join Croatia due to licensing restrictions from his club, Ipswich Town U-18. PSSI Acting Secretary General of PSSI (Plt) Yunus Nusi has also indicated that Elkan cannot participate in training for the U19 national team abroad.
“Regarding Elkan Baggott, there has been no response from his club (Ipswich Town U18),” said Shin.
