In an interview with BBC Several years ago, Akie expressed the pressure she faces to have children. This is related to the husband’s position in the Japanese government.

“Of course, as the wife of a politician, she was under tremendous pressure, even from her electorate,” Akie said, quoted on Friday (8/28/2020).

Akie admitted that she had undergone fertility treatment to get pregnant. However, at her age that she was no longer young, she was well aware of her position as a woman.

“Now it’s getting difficult because of my age, people have stopped telling me to try it. But, in the beginning, I had fertility treatment,” Akie said.
