Jakarta –
The Ministry of the Interior (Kemendagri) provided clarification on the appointment of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md as Minister of the Interior ad interim. The Interior Ministry said that Mahfud Md’s appointment as Interior Minister remained valid.
“The letter has been corrected. Once again I emphasize that what has been rectified is an internal letter from the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior addressed to the Inspector General, Director General, Head of Agency, Rector of the IPDN, Secretary of BNPP, Deputy of the BNPP, Expert Personnel of the Minister, Special Personnel of the Minister, Head of Office / The Center for the General Secretariat, the Secretary of DKPP, the Secretary of KORPRI, the Head of the PSDM Regional Center, the Director of the IPDN Regional Campus and the Head of the Village Government Offices, “said Kapuspen Kemendagri, Benni Irwan in their written statement, on Friday (8/28/2020).
Benni explained that the appointment of the Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs as Acting Minister of the Interior is the responsibility of President Jokowi through the Secretary of State, as indicated in the letter of the Secretary of State No. B-642 / M -Sesneg / D-3 / AN.00.03 / 08/2020 of the Minister of State. He stressed that the cancellation of the letter with number 821.1 / 4837 / SJ did not affect the appointment.
Benni said the letter with the number 821.1 / 4837 / SJ, which is intended for internal purposes, only needs correspondence. However, since the Minister of the Interior is on duty abroad on weekends, no correspondence is needed.
“The internal letter is no longer necessary because on Saturdays and Sundays there is no administrative correspondence in the Ministry of the Interior. Therefore, the ad interim appointment letter issued by the Secretary of State is not canceled,” he explained.
Previously, the letter on the appointment of Mahfud Md as Acting Minister of the Interior was widely circulated. In letter numbered 821.1 / 4837 / SJ, it is written: The appointment of the Minister of the Interior, Ad Interim, addressed to the officials of the Ministry of the Interior.
The Secretary of the Ministry of State then confirmed Mahfud’s appointment. Secretary of State Setya Utama explained that the appointment was made because the Minister of the Interior, Tito Karnavian, would be on duty in Singapore for two days.
“The assignment is in Singapore,” Sesmensesneg Setya Utama said when asked for confirmation on Friday (8/28).
However, the letter number 821.1 / 4837 / SJ was later canceled. Kapuspen Kemendagri Benny Irwan said the letter was corrected because Tito went to Singapore over the weekend, so there was no correspondence at his institution.
“Because there is no letter management at the Home Office from Saturday to Sunday, there is no need for a letter,” Benny said.
